Owner: Yumiko Machiya

Born in Saiki City, Oita Prefecture.

At the end of 1996, she began working as a hostess at ryokan inns in Yamanaka Onsen, one of the hot spring towns of the Kaga Onsen-kyo region.

From 2000 to about 2010, she ran a restaurant in Katamachi, the nightlife district of Kanazawa.

After remarrying and becoming a parent, she decided that the next chapter of her life should be to open a guest house in a machiya townhouse.

From 2013 to 2016, she polished her Japanese-style hospitality through her work at various hotels and high-end restaurants.

Then, in July of 2016, she opened Salon & Stay Uica.

News

Located in Nomachi, Kanazawa, just five minutes by foot from Ninja Temple.

This traditional machiya townhouse stands along the Old Tsurugi Road, which once served as the road to the sacred Mt. Hakusan.

Enjoy a stay at a private guest house and community space that is rented out to just a single party each night,

for a comfortable place to spend a relaxed evening by yourself, or together with some of the people who matter most to you.

The main part of this townhouse was first built in the year 1892,

and it originally served as a residence, then as a paper shop. As the years went by, the shop changed with the times, becoming a stationery shop.

Even today, the pillars and corridors inside still show signs of the building’s history, changing alongside the people who lived here.

At first glance, this part of town may seem a bit closed-off and conservative, but set foot inside and you’ll find history in every corner.

Experience the joy of staying in such a unique environment, in touch with ages past.

This machiya townhouse has long been a part of the community, watching over the people who have lived here,

giving it an ineffable warmth and character that you won’t find anywhere else.

Experience a taste of the extraordinary, found in this quietly unassuming neighborhood.

We look forward to seeing you at Uica for your next visit to Kanazawa.
